Ford Transit Goes Custom for 2014 SEMA Show

Ford wants to show off the flexibility of its Transit van at this year’s SEMA show.

The American automaker has released a preview of five custom Transit vans that will debut in Las Vegas next week. They’re all built with different themes to show off the versatility of the platform. The first project is the Formula DRIFT Transit (seen above) that will actually be used at the series’ events next year as a track safety and support vehicle. Next is the Vegas Off-Road Experience Transit that will support the Vegas Off-Road Experience in South Boulder City, Nevada. Customized by the VORE group, this Transit gets an off-road theme that will take guests around the facility in luxury.

Longtime Ford partner 3dCarbon has also put its touch on the Transit with a long-wheelbase, medium-roof model featuring a solid hickory wood floor and four reclining captain’s chairs with heating, cooling and massage functions; they also have power headrests. Then there’s the Business Class Transit created by Detroit Custom Coach of Oak Park, Michigan. It offers high-class, VIP treatment for eight people with premium amenities including cocktail stations.

Lastly, there’s the Galpin Auto Sports Transit Skyliner that shows how Ford’s van can be transformed to fit the needs of limousines and high-end transportation services in addition to commercial fleets, shuttle providers and small-business owners.

They preview the first of what is expected to be a renaissance in custom vans, led by the all-new Ford Transit.”
